Strange Fruit

Senate apologizes for lynchings: article

Here is a better article, with the story of James Cameron, who is the only known survivor of any lynching.

"Strange Fruit" refers to a moving Nina Simone song on the subject.

Michael,

Thanks for visiting my blog, and the Nina Simone recommendation. I had no idea she had an autobiography...I'll definitely check it out.

As for the song "Strange Fruit", I know that Nina does a cover of this song. It was original written in 1939 by Abel Meeropol, a schoolteacher in NYC.

The song became notorious through the performances of Billie Holiday, who popularized it.
