On Alexander Solzhenitsyn

I just read of today's passing of Nobel-prize winning author Alexander Solzhenitsyn. I hadn't heard his name before, but reading the accounts of his life, his work, and the struggles he survived while in the Soviet Union's slave labor camps, I'm inspired to read some of what he wrote.

Two of interest are:

  • One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich

  • The Gulag Archipelago (three volumes)

I learned his name in 9th grade Civics class. The Gulag Archapelego.

Never read it. Don't have the slightest clue what it's about, but, I remember his name and that title. Weird.

Oh no! I didn't hear this till now! I have always admired the heck out of his bravery, his honesty, his talent. Sad news but he will go down in history as someone who had the balls to speak out against Stalin.

I want to read him too. The man had guts that's for sure. I doubt my library has anything, maybe the college.
