In a wonderful story about a dangerous rescue that I think should be titled, "Real Heroes Read Playboy" (or at least "Real Heroes Wear Playboy Hats"), the man pictured to the left, William Autrey, risked his own life to save the life of another.
A young man fell from the platform into the path of an oncoming subway train. Autrey jumped down to rescue the nineteen year old. His initial thought was to hoist the teen to safety but wasn't sure if there was time. So instead, he pushed both of their bodies down a shallow drainage trough beneath the train as it rode just over them with just a couple of inches to spare.
